First Presbyterian Church of New Gretna
Welcome To Our Church
Pastor Paul J. Milio
Pastor Paul J. Milio
The members of our small, beautiful Victorian church situated on the edge of the New Jersey Pinelands extend a sincere invitation to you to come and join us as we celebrate the presence of God in our lives. Our church is in the village of New Gretna in historic Bass River Township, between the scenic Mullica and Bass Rivers. As such, we are constantly reminded of God’s sense of beauty and serenity. We feel the awesome renewal of the presence of the spirit of God in our community and encourage you to come and share in the wonderful realization that God has touched each one of us in special and exciting ways. Whether you are just looking for a special place to feel closer to God or are interested in actively participating in the life and work of our church, you will be warmly welcomed. Come and join us as we rejoice and celebrate the grace of God in our lives.
Worshiping God is our most important activity.
We worship regularly at 10:00am each Sunday morning as well as having special worship services throughout the year. Our church is warmed by the friendship of our members and cooled by air conditioning during those hot summer days. Our members and youth are active participants in our worship services. Come dressed comfortably, and do bring your children with you when you visit.
Christian Education
takes on many forms in our church. Among them are adult Bible study groups that meet periodically after a supper fellowship, a Children's Bible school class which meets on Tuesday afternoons at 4:00 PM, and a Youth Group which meets in the evening. The Ladies Bible study class meets on the fourth Thursday of each month.

The members of our church community believe strongly in the power of prayer. Our Prayer Group meets every morning in the church to pray and read scripture. If you would like to join our Intercessory Prayer Chain or submit a prayer request, please click on the "Prayer Requests" category on the navigation bar.
Our choir
is small and informal, but they love to sing. All are welcome to join in regardless of musical background. The only requirement is that singing the praises of God fills your heart with joy.
Music
plays an important part in our services and church fellowship. Our church is blessed with a group of talented musicians, both members and guests, who provide a unique and spiritually uplifting tone to our worship service. Come and enjoy our special music. Better yet, bring your own instrument and share your talent to the glory of God. Help us to "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord." Mission Projects -
We have been called by Christ to serve others with our time and talents. In addition to supporting our local food bank, we initiate and support programs to assist those in our community with special needs as well as providing funds to support national and global causes. PHOTO: Preparing hoagies in the Fellowship Hall for our Hoagie Sale which raised $2,100 for the Kosovo Disaster Relief Fund. We joined forces with the Methodist church in town and raised $2200 for a needy family. In November of 2001, we enlisted the entire community to help raise $2800 in a "Hoagies for Heroes" endeavor, which benefited New York firefighters and other victims of the world trade center.
Christian Fellowship-
God gave us a smile and expects us to use it. Having fun together is one of God’s special gifts. We gather together often: at coffee hours after worship; over great pot luck suppers (You can’t beat country cookin’.); lifting our voices at community hymn sings, ice cream socials, picnics, sharing and enjoying each others special talents; and at events during the special seasons of the year. We gather to enjoy God and each other and to build a community. PHOTO: Members Claire and Alston Allen help their grandson make an Advent wreath in an after church fellowship activity.
Church Library-
A small Church Library has been started. Members and friends may check out books and videos. Elder Donna Doherty, Chairman of the Christian Education Committee, is our librarian. Hopefully, the library will grow and help us to also grow in our walk with Christ.
Our Heritage-
We cherish and celebrate our church’s heritage which is steeped in the rich tradition of the 18th century Presbyterian circuit riders who rode through the pines spreading the good news of the gospels.(See our Church History page.) The spirit of community, the love of Christ, and an appreciation of our heritage continues to this day. Ben Allen, our oldest male member, is standing to his right.

There are five campgrounds and two marinas in Bass River Township and many more in the surrounding area. We welcome campers, fishermen, and boaters at our Sunday morning worship service and to all of our other activities. Please dress comfortably. We would love to meet you and share our joy in our savior, Jesus Christ.
