|
• Litany of Dedication of new Hymnals
Leader: Almighty God, who has set forth the Good News in Jesus Christ and put into our hearts a new song,
People: We offer to you our sacrifice of praise.
Leader: For your children who through the universal language of poetry and melody have taught us to sing your praise,
People: We offer you our gratitude.
Leader: For our ancestors in the faith who set the world to singing and gave the people of our church a sacred heritage of song,
People: We praise your holy name.
Leader: For the joy you kindled in the hearts of your children, expressing itself in song and calling us to faith in your Son,
People: We bless your name, O Lord.
Leader: For this new hymnal and all those whose dedicated efforts have made it possible,
People: We give you thanks, O Lord.
Leader: O God, whose purpose is the redemption of your world, use this gift to high and holy purposes that it may enable those who seek to worship you in spirit and truth to express gratitude, penitence, and commitment,
People: We humbly beseech you, O Lord.
Leader: May it cause a new song to rise from the hearts of those who dwell in towns, in the farmland, to the oceans, from near and far around the earth,
People: We humbly beseech you, O Lord.
Leader: May this hymnal provide marching music for your church,
People: And may our lives be dedicated so that your kingdom may come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Leader: Grant, O Lord, that the harmony from these songs of praise may enter our lives and help us be more fully dedicated to your name. May we be more sensitive to the warmth they hold, the courage they possess, and the truth they tell.
All: Amen.
